Welcome to Reynet255: My Ongoing IT Journey

Okay, the title might be a little misleading.  I’m not just now starting my path into IT in March 2025. Here, let me explain.

The Landfill Days

If we’re being official, my journey probably started around November 2020.  I was working for Waste Management, sitting in my D8 bulldozer pushing trash.  Literally.  I kept hearing this radio commercial about a school called MyComputerCareer:

“You could start your new career as an IT pro in months!”

I didn’t think much about it at first… until they mentioned something about the GI Bill.  As a veteran, my ears perked up.  A few days later, I looked into the program and eventually took a tour of the campus that I couldn’t even attend because of Covid-19 restrictions.

MyComputerCareer: The Launchpad

I enrolled and officially started in February 2021, graduating in April 2022.  The school focused on certs like:

  • CompTIA (A+, Network+, Security+, and Server
  • Linux
  • Microsoft MTA
  • CEH (Certified Ethical Hacker)
  • CCNA

They also provided career support, resume building, and job placement assistance.  Which reminds me, huge shout-out to Ms. Pierce (boy, she worked her tail off trying to get me a job).  Anyways, It was a solid launchpad, especially for someone like me who was switching fields… again.

But, Where Did It Really Start?

Honestly, it’s hard to pin down the real beginning of my Journey. Was it:

  • February 2020, watching our sysadmin Ken set up my workstation and running around working on our network?
  • 2013, when I was grinding through Treehouse learning front-end dev?
  • Or maybe even as a kid, when my mom bought my sister and I a computer?  I didn’t know what it could really do, but I was already mastering Minesweeper.

Why This Blog?

I’m not here to split hairs about when it all began, because frankly, it doesn’t matter.  What does matter, at least to me, is documenting the journey.

I’ve been capturing pieces of it through YouTube, and I’ll keep posting there.  But now, I’m adding a new layer with this blog.

This is Reynet255- where I’ll share my experiences, labs, wins, struggles, and lessons learned along the way.

What’s Next?

I’ll be posting:

  • IT labs
  • Real-world configs with my Cisco gear
  • Certs that I’m studying for
  • Tools and techniques I’m learning
  • Thoughts on tech, leadership, and growth

If you’re into IT, switching careers, or just curious about the process, follow along.

Let’s route this journey together.
